Firstly, I researched existing youthful and active campaigns which had inspired me to plan my print adverts. I found various campaigns which promoted unisex products and also adverts with ethnic diversity within their models, which I intend to include in my print advert. I have therefore analysed 3 print adverts which have specifically influenced me and I have annotated and explained why.
1. Calvin Klein CK1 advert - The Calvin Klein campaign has used a range of youthful models, thus exemplifying diversity and the unisex brand identity within the print advert; I intend to do this as I have selected various models of different race
- The format and arrangement of the models are intertwined and overlapping, this is combined with the black and white background, which gives the print advert a unique and edgy style. I also intend to overlap my photographs of the models as inspired by this advert.
- In this print advert, there are a variety of different poses, which mirror the youthful and active brand values. This is demonstrated by the striking and funky poses coupled with the musical poses.
- The packshot of the product is unconventionally placed in the middle of the advert that gives the print advert a sense of rebellion, which also reflects the youthful brand value.
2. Pirates of the Caribbean, On Stranger Tides advert
- The youthful and unisex brand values are portrayed in the print advert. Furthermore, the active brand value is highlighted via the mermaid and swimming.
- I was really inspired by the background of this print advert as the Pirates of the Caribbean themed background mirrors the target audience of Total Film Magazine, who are film enthusiasts, therefore my intertextuality will be portrayed through the use a similar background and a film quote from Pirates of the Caribbean.
- The pose of the mermaid and the pirate also inspired me as I intend to use the same direct address as the models have used, however, my models will be standing in London.
3. Nivea 'Feel Closer' advert
- These adverts inspired me since they both exemplify the brand values of being active, youthful and unisex
- Furthermore, both adverts are set in a party environment which matches my idea and both models are waving and raising their arms which also reflects my idea as this is what I intend to do.
- The pack shot is also conventionally placed in the bottom right-hand corner where I am also going to place my pack shot, next to the slogan
- In addition, the man is looking at the woman which may be symbolic feminism and girl power, which I also intend to copy.
Overall, all of these adverts have helped me piece together my ideas and have influenced my plans in different ways, helping me to create a successful print advert.
